• Leucanthemum ‘Banana Cream’: A modern twist on the classic daisy, this cultivar boasts large lemon-yellow blooms that gradually fade to a creamy white. Compact in habit, it’s ideal for borders and patio containers, and makes an excellent cut flower with a long vase life.
• Leucanthemum ‘Ooh La Spider’: Striking and distinctive, this variety features finely quilled white petals radiating around a golden-yellow centre. Its unusual, spidery form adds textural interest to planting schemes, offering something a little different while retaining the cheerful essence of a daisy.

When and how to plant

Leucanthemums thrive in full sun and prefer a well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. They can be planted in either spring or early autumn, giving them time to establish before the bad weather sets in. Space plants around 30–45cm apart, depending on variety, to ensure good airflow and healthy growth. Water well after planting and apply a light mulch to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

Leucanthemum maintenance

These perennials are generally low-maintenance, but regular care helps them to perform at their best. Deadheading spent blooms will encourage further flowering and prolong the season. A light feed with a balanced fertiliser in early summer will support vigorous growth and vibrant flowers. Every three to four years, clumps should be lifted and divided in spring or autumn to maintain vitality and prevent overcrowding.

Cut back stems in late autumn once flowering has finished, or leave them standing over winter to provide structure and shelter for beneficial insects.
