About Us

Ernest Nicholas Coxhead started the business in 1953.  He had been brought up in a horticultural environment and took over the site from his father.

Ernest worked hard and continued to grow plants and sell them at markets. As his business grew he produced more and more varieties of perennials and started with bedding plants. From these humble beginnings and with help from loyal staff and then his two sons, Michael and Mark, the company now produces and sells millions of pounds worth of plants and salads every year.

In the mid seventies we moved into Iceberg lettuce production and have expanded to grow Gem and Romaine outside as well as an all year round indoor salad crop. Our experienced staff guarantees top quality products for all our customers.

As we move into our next generation Michael’s sons, Rudi and Austin work on the plant side of the business and Nicholas works on the lettuce alongside his father, Mark. Hopefully with this new generation now involved E. N. Coxhead Ltd. can continue to grow and prosper.
