Pansies
Pansies are particularly prized by gardeners as an autumn bedding plant, for flowering in the late winter and early spring. EN Coxhead pansies are available in a variety of colours and make a welcome addition to beds, borders, containers, window boxes and hanging baskets. Ensure you dead-head pansies regularly to allow them to deliver a continuous flourish of large, impressive flowers.
Violas
Violas produce an abundance of elegant, rounded flowers on neat compact growth to deliver a subtle display. Many violas form a trailing habit and look fabulous in a hanging basket, patio pot or window box. Violas are a great way to add instant colour to your garden and will repeat flower to bring several months of vibrant colour.
Hebes
A native plant of New Zealand, Hebes flower over a long period with shades of blue, purple, pink or white flowers, which appear throughout the summer and autumn. Hebes are excellent in shrub borders, can be used as ground cover or low-growing hedging, and are relatively low-maintenance.
Polyanthus
Polyanthus are a type of primula and feature many different coloured flowers. They thrive in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Polyanthus look fabulous by themselves and create impressive displays when planted is larger areas. . Remove decaying leaves to reduce risk of fungal infections and if grown in pots make sure to repot into fresh compost every year.
Delphiniums
Renowned for their clear colours and commanding presence, delphiniums are possibly the ultimate early summer perennial. From June the plant is topped with many flowers, varying in colour from white, yellow and red to blues and purples. Like polyanthus, delphiniums prefer moist, but well drained soil.
