Pansies can brighten your garden’s borders, as well as giving an excellent show in containers and pots. Pansies perform best in cooler weather and are therefore usually planted from later in the summer. They like rich, well-drained substrate with a high level of organic matter and full sun or partial shade.
EN Coxhead Pansies are typically 5 to 8 centimetres in diameter and may grow to 23 cm in height. They have two slightly overlapping upper petals, two side petals, and a single bottom petal with a slight beard emanating from the flower’s centre.

Watering Your Pansies
Employing the correct watering regime is important to promote healthy growth in all plants. Pansies require just 2.5cm water per week when they are actively growing. Manual watering should occur in the morning, so foliage has the rest of the day to dry off.
Overwatering pansies can lead to cultural disorders as a result of excess moisture. When a plant is overwatered, either once, or over an extended period of time, it fills with water and cannot take in new water from which it receives its nutrients and oxygen.
In pansies excessive watering may cause edema, a common physiological disorder which can appears as unsightly bumps on the stems. Edema is not a disease and it is not transmittable from one plant to another, it is simply the plant reacting to overwatering. So, always ensure pansies are planted in well drained substrate and continually check your watering regime.
Deadheading Your Pansies
To keep pansies blooming for as long as possible you need to deadhead them. Deadheading is simply removing any faded or diseased blooms. The most efficient way to deadhead pansies is by using a small pair of clippers. Flowers can also be pinched off once they begin to fade. Simply take your middle finger and thumb at the stem just above the leaf and pluck the limp bloom from the bud base. This will encourage your pansies to develop more flowers and give you a longer show.
EN Coxhead has many years’ experience growing the finest quality annuals and perennials and our pansies will enhance any garden, landscaping or domestic planting project.
