The RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park in Knutsford, Cheshire is open this year from 18th to 22nd July and is a brilliant family day out in the lazy, hazy days of summer featuring young and talented garden designers, who will bring their garden designs to life at the show.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the 2018 young designers’ competition will be judged at RHS Flower Show Tatton Park which this year celebrates its own 20th birthday.
Garden Celebrates Northern Spirit
A garden designed to honour everyone affected by the Manchester Arena bombing, through the inspirational words of a Mancunian poet. ‘Up Here’, a garden that celebrates the community spirit of North West England, will be a key feature at the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park, supported by Bruntwood. The Show Garden was inspired by the poem Up ‘ere, penned by poet Tony Walsh, and was commissioned by the BBC North West Tonight programme after the attack on Manchester Arena that claimed the lives of 22 people and injured hundreds in May 2017.
The garden, which has been designed by Janine Crimmins, will include subtle tributes throughout and words from Tony Walsh’s poem engraved in stone. The Manchester Bee, a symbol of the city that celebrates its industrial heritage, will also be etched into stone and visitors will be encouraged to see how many they can spot. Further inspiration for the garden comes from Rivington Terraced Gardens in Bolton, designed by Landscape Architect, Thomas Mawson for Lord Leverhulme. Rivington Terraced Gardens was an arts and crafts garden that fell into disrepair in the 1920s. Situated on a hill, the gardens have far-reaching views across the North West – linking in with the Show Garden’s title, Up Here.
Bus Stop Boulevard is Back from 2018
Making a welcome return to the show this year, the Bus Stop Boulevard will feature a spectacular array of bus stops which have been given a green make-over by local community groups and designers. Supported by Transport for Greater Manchester, the florally-inspired bus stops will encourage you to get growing your own plants and celebrate different communities and cultures around you. Two of the most notable bus stops to feature this year are The Buzz Stop, Bus Stop of Hope and Carnival Stop: Jungle is Massive.
The Buzz Stop
Inspired by the powerful symbol of the Manchester Bee, Ben Thomas has created The Buzz Stop, offering an ideal location for the 250 plus bee varieties in the UK to meet up and indulge in an array of pollinator-friendly plants, alongside honeycomb and beehive-inspired planters. The perfect place to ‘bee’ together.
Bus Stop of Hope
The children at St Charles RC Primary School and their local community have helped to design The Bus Stop of Hope featuring a dove made entirely of chrysanthemums and a map of the world, in the hope that this important message can be enjoyed and shared.
Carnival Stop: Jungle is Massive
After bringing their infectious carnival spirit to the show a few years ago, Cabasa Carnival Arts CIC will be injecting this into a Bus Stop design in celebration of the life-giving, tropical rainforests of Brazil and the Caribbean, as well as the cultures and the people of the carnivals they are home to. Sounds of the jungle are audible and visitors can press a button to create a carnival atmosphere with lights and carnival music.
