EN Coxhead produces a large variety of perennials and herbaceous perennials at the start of every season. They are grown in a variety of sizes from 9cm to 2 litre pots and are available to our trade customers right through to Easter.

Perennials

Traditionally perennials are used in flower beds, borders, cutting gardens, and to highlight special places in the landscape.

The term perennial essentially means that the plant will live for more than two years. The term is often used to differentiate a plant from shorter-lived annuals and biennials. The term is also widely used to distinguish plants with little or no woody growth from trees and shrubs, which are also technically perennials. So, the term perennial loosely refers to all non-woody plants grown in the border which are not trees, shrubs or bulbs. They can be deciduous or evergreen, such as grasses.

The term herbaceous perennial describes the sub-group of perennials which die back in the winter.

Herbaceous Perennials

The chorus line of garden plants, returning year after year filling your garden with wonder. They provide structure and interest to borders and if well planned can ensure seasons of interest right up until early winter.

During the winter months the plants die back to bare soil and become dormant. Parts of the plant survives under, or close to the ground from season to season. After the winter new growth develops, heralding the start of spring, with herbaceous perennials being among the first plants in the garden to breath colour and life into your borders.
